The first benefit listed regarding Premium accounts is automatic collection of in-game currency. Does that mean I no longer have to run my character over the drops? Not a big gain, imho.

What I'd really like to know is, specifically, regarding andermants: are the drops bigger? Is there any substantial in-game renewal of andermants, ie, the chance to win, say, 100 andermants (or more)? I ask because 1) DSO seems to have no "world boss" event wherein (in other games) resources are typically and substantially renewed; and 2) the puny andermant drops the game does give (as a non-Premium player) are woefully insufficient when it comes to upgrading equipment.

No disrespect intended. I know this is how you guys make your living. But the andermant situation does seem quite lopsided, in terms of what's given compared to what's needed. If the Premium account improves this situation, then going Premium seems far more attractive. Thnx ahead of time for responding.

There are events that give a unique currency called Draken that you use to buy things from the troll merchant Gnob. Gnob only comes twice a year now. Moon events and irregular yearly events will have Draken plus a few special rewards for you to collect.

As you level up and go to higher difficulty dungeons the ander drops will be much higher. There are many things you can buy with ander but most would recommend you save for inventory expansion and gems.

Inventory and gems. I would've thought equipment upgrading. Interesting. Thnx again.

In a recent release, things changed so that no one had to stop to click on the in-game currency so that is no longer a perk of the Premium account.

Premium accounts do get drops of the Mystic Cube. The cube can contain andermant but I wouldn't rely on that as a source for it. (I recently got 1000 andermant from one cube but that is the first I've seen since the cubes started dropping.)

You can gain andermant by watching videos, subscribing for services or buying things. To find those options, click the "Add Andermant" button. Towards the top of the screen, you'll see both a "Cash for Action" and a "Movie Videos" button. Both will take you to places to get "free" andermant. (Caveat emptor! Nothing is every truly free!)

as a premium player you can return to the map after you die for free saving yourself 40 andermant this can be handy during events, and other maps .Not sure what level you are mindship but when you start the game best use for ander is to increase inventory and locker space. And to buy some gems mainly sapphires or rubies. When you are lvl 45 and you get some great uniques or legendary items you can add xtra gem slots this is also good use of andermant.
In the high level maps ander drops can add up quickly because drops are 20 to 40 andermant (roughly).
There are certain times when ander is discounted and also times when gems are discounted.

I'm currently lvl 26, and have been focusing mostly on sapphires and rubies when buying gems. Again, interesting that upgrading (or buying higher-lvl) equipment, with anders, is not a priority. Part of the challenge of this game for me is rethinking how to play it as compared to previous games I've played.

I'm also getting the impression that going Premium is generally a good (if unnecessary) deal, and that there haven't been any problems Cancelling a Premium account (or just letting it expire).

    Helpful info, peeps. Many thnx.

You don't need Andermant to upgrade your equipment. I mean, you can... but it's much simpler to pay in Glyphs of Power (though those can also be bought... but frankly, you're not gettin' your Ander's worth). That being said, you can upgrade equipment by farming Glyphs. That means you melt items that are Improved (green) or better. The melting value increases with the rarity of an item. The purchasable uniques from the Artifact Merchants may look appealing at first, but in reality, they're rather bad. You can find way better ones just by playing and defeating monsters. And sincerely, until you reach the endgame period, there's no special need to upgrade items, as you can progressively find better ones as you go. Then again, if you think you made a mistake by upgrading an item that's not cutting it for you, you can always recover any Glyphs by melting the item in question. For example, say you used 100k Glyphs on an item, but you'd want them back. Melting the said item will restore your Glyphs entirely, so you don't have to worry about losing any. Use your Ander for what the others suggested above.

Cancelling a premium account isn't an issue, at least it wasn't for me. You'll get some pop ups a little more often offering a discount on buying ander but that's the only difference I've seen since cancelling.

The real difference is respawning on the same map. Without premium it will cost you 40 anders. Getting the extra storage space and inventory space is the most important use for anders. You'll need that space.

You can travel from map to map using gold, and it's easy enough to farm that.

Like the others, I would not suggest buying gear, there is much better gear to be found through farming. At your level you'll want to start paying attention to gear more, you can get some good drops in Fortress Teganswall that can upgrade really well, but keep in mind that once you near the end game maps, you'll be replacing just about everything.

Good gear doesn't drop often whether you are premium or not, so take your time farming and building up any good gear you get. The PVE maps are pretty easy to get through with okay gear, but you'll need good gear or good groups for the parallel worlds.

The first 40 levels are so much fun in this game... You'll enjoy it, so have fun and happy killing!

    1. Good to hear about cancelling not being an issue. In prior games I've played, I've read in the forums how trying to get out of a premium-type account or subscription is fraught with annoyance. The developers are quick to take your money, but slow to let it go.

    2. Yeah, definitely something to consider.

    3. Who thought killing could be so much fun! ;)

Taking chances, I've learned the hard way that purchasing an equipment upgrade from a merchant is usually Not a good idea. I've been doing pretty well so far with blue and pink/purple gear (and usually by also using essences), having found those via farming/grinding...but I just got curious as to what the merchants were selling. Now I know better. Thnx.

The term "upgrade" in DSO generally references using Glyphs of Power to make something a higher level and gain the additional stats on enchantments. This is a "no-lose" situation as any gear that has GOPS invested in it can be melted and all the GOPS are returned. The only time this is troublesome is when you have invested GOPS in a piece that you do not want to melt, but you also do not want to wear. Something like event uniques are often in this category. You use them for a while then find something better, so you replace it, but they may never be offered again. Something offered at the vendor will most likely always be there, but is seldom worth buying. Those are Ander that are gone forever, like buying an additional gem slot on a piece of gear that will soon be replaced.

As for Anderment, yes it does seem to trickle. Higher level dungeons do have increased drop but it is marginally higher. A level 45 dungeon for example drops 14 at a time. The PW's have higher rates 30-36, but the mobs there take longer to kill so it's not always a better return on the investment of time to go after the harder mobs. Sometimes the low level stuff will get you more of what you are looking for since you can kill them 10 times as fast and have more opportunities for smaller stacks of Ander or other supplies. It depends on what you are trying to farm.

Yeah, I read this stuff prior. Good, general overviews, but they didn't address my specifics. In any event, ty for responding.

    BigPapa:
Each time I get a response like this, I feel much better Not "wasting" anders on directly upgrading gear. Really, DSO is not quite set-up like the other games I've played, but I'm-a learnin'.

Yes, I've been finding this forum much more responsive than with other games. Very encouraging.

On a somewhat related issue, if I were to rate attributes (for a Ranger), I'm figuring, from most important to least important, would be...
    1. base damage
    2. armor
    3. speed
    4. HP
    5. critical hit rate
    6. blocking

    Any suggestions/modifications?

And therein lies the challenge. What is the build for, PVP or PVE? How do you plan to play, up close and personal, or at range?
All of those items are important and every person you ask would reprioritize that list based on how they play. For me 1,3,4,5,6,2. But it will be even more complicated than that as you get further in. An item will have enchantments on it, and you start making comparisons and asking "is it worth..." over and over. Is it worth gaining 250 HP if I lose 100 armor, is it worth a 7.5 speed increase if I lose 300 crit etc etc. That is the fun part of it. Even similar gear can yield different benefits.

It will be even more fun when you start to build your own sets. I have a tank set, a DPS set, a PVP set, a Solo set and things get constantly moved around based on what the situation is.

I was afraid you were gonna say that.
Exactly the type of reasoning loop I get bogged down in. Worse than a mob attack. Anyway, I focus on PvE with a balance between range (love making those long shots) and close-up (love getting physical). That's why I like the Ranger: not a one-trick pony.
Multiple sets? Yikes. Don't even have a handle on one, yet.

In my experience (I mainly play spell weaver) the easiest to get is armor, followed by health, then crit, then dmg. However, just because the drops fall that way doesn't match what you would like.

I only pve, and most of the time I solo the maps, so to me, armor and dmg were my priority. Health is really hard to avoid getting, so you end up with it even while not even trying. My little SW can tank just about anything in the game despite what some call a glass cannon and still packs quite the punch.

In pve, killing something with one or two hits is far better than being able to block a bunch of hits. I've got a decent block rate at 950 with 983 block amount, but it's my somewhat decent dmg and great armor that allows me to tank and solo everything except Mortis and Destructor.

The last few updates have really thrown a monkey wrench into the mix and it's much harder to find items with good dmg and crit so expect some mind numbing grind to find them.

I've never had much speed and never really worried about it either. From what I understand, in pvp speed can make a huge difference so keep that in mind if you go that route. I currently have 1,23 speed and haven't needed anything more than that for pve.

    1. Ditto. I find the game much more relaxing with PvE, and I also like soloing. I also favor a strong defense: I usually play mage in games, and always bolstered defense to avoid/minimize the glass cannon.

    2. That's why I like the big bow. Take 'em out AFAP.

    3. I started figuring that speed (and short bow) were likely advantageous in PvP. Nonetheless, I've bought gems to bolster speed for my PvE exploits.

Okay, so I'm trying the Premium account for one month. Accordingly, I should be getting "Automatic collection of all resources (Ancient Wisdom, Coins, Andermant, Draken)." I presumed this meant I didn't have to run around picking up stuff after I killed monsters. Well, unless I presumed incorrectly, I still have to run around picking up stuff after I've killed monsters. What is amiss here?

You can only automatically collect coins, andermants and books of wisdom ... Drakens are not collected automatically.
However now even players without premium can do that. It is no longer benefit of a premium. And yes you have to pass close by to collect them.
